RAAF Museum Point Cook

Exhibition Design. Graphic Design. Content Development. Production and Construction.

Bringing to life the amazing collection of aircraft held by RAAF Museum.

The intent of “Strike” and “Power from the Air” was to deliver an exhibition that brought to life the amazing collection of aircraft held by RAAF Museum, but to move beyond the physical, static objects and focus on the personal stories of those who took them to the skies and understanding the place of RAAF within the history of our nation.

FRD transformed the existing RAAF heritage hangars from a warehouse of aircraft, to a vibrant and engaging visitor experience through the use of theatrical lighting, immersive soundscape, and large scale multimedia “object theatre” film piece. Visitors are taken on their own journey to the sky and through each media piece and graphic element, learn about key events which shaped the history of Australia and the world.

These aircraft were designed to fly – and fast, so the challenge was to find a way to present this movement and dynamism while the objects themselves are static. The “Strike” show delivered on the promised wow-factor. The filming itself was a testament to collaboration and ingenuity, and the willingness by RAAF to explore new things as cinematographers tested the limits of their camera gear against the supersonic power of the F/A-18 Hornet.
