There is a different soundscape during the day, then at night the soundtrack switches to nocturnal birds.

A permanent public art installation commissioned by City of Sydney, the artwork, part of the revitalisation of the city’s laneways, comprises 180 bird cages that playa soundscape of birdsong. The calls are from bird species that used to live in thecity before the arrival of Europeans, now extinct or rarely heard.

Freeman Ryan Design worked with artist Michael Hill to develop the display, including interpretation and graphics. Landscape Design was by Aspect Studios.
