During World War I Albany was the key assembly and departure point for Australian and New Zealand troopships

In 2005 the city council engaged FRD in association with landscape architects Syrinx Environmental to design a park on the foreshore of Princess Royal Harbour that would form a historically rich and environmentally conscious interface with the city and be a focal point for remembrance of the Anzac tradition, of peace, and of Albany’s significant role during World War 1. A central element of the design was to provide an integrated interpretive experience. FRD produced a comprehensive Interpretation Plan for the site, and, guided by this plan, developed content and design for interpretive elements within the park.
