Dinosaurs gives visitors a new look at an old favourite. FRD’s exhibition design heavily incorporates the heritage fabric of the Australian Museum building, enhancing the visual and interpretive impact of the museum’s largest natural history artefacts: the casts of dinosaur skeletons.

A series of simple, central forms act as a stage for the artefact displays. These displays hint at life that was, by creating a moving visual drama of projected skeleton shadows. Large-scale video and computer-generated scenarios are projected upon the heritage walls, evoking the landscape upon which these creatures died and inducing an authentic context for these huge artefacts.

FRD ensured a smooth flow of visitor circulation between four distinct thematic areas. Each of these areas ensures emotional, sensory and intellectual engagement in a unique way, including colourful graphic displays, tactile engagement in a laboratory recreation, dynamic multimedia presentations and animatronic models. Each segment leads naturally to the next, ensuring a complete and coherent experience for the visitor.
